One reason why now is an exciting time to work on mobile projects

I did this 10 reasons why now is the perfect time to get started with the mobile web presenation at KVIV exactly one week ago. When thinking about the things I've read this last week alone, it's amazing to realize how much has changed in just a few days (okay, it's a MWC week, but still).

Mobile clearly is one of the most exciting areas to follow these days. I'm planning to do an update of the presentation (aimed at developers and marketeers in particular) at Barcamp Antwerp in a few weeks. If you're interested, make sure to drop by!

The new Pixelpanic.be is up

You may have noticed I recently redesigned and relaunched Pixelpanic.be. A few people asked me whether I decided to stop the job hunt and chose to go freelance full-time. I'm not. In fact, the job hunt is going pretty well and I hope to take a decision somewhere next week.

I did however want to change the Pixelpanic site (I've been planning to do so for quite a while actually) as it no longer represented what I was doing. When I originally started the company, I designed and built websites. (period) Over the last few years however, Pixelpanic slowly changed from being a supplier to a partner kind of role. And that's really the direction I want to continue in.

Now this is pretty cool: startup advice in exactly three words. There's a list of 50 tips for you to read at onstartups.com (and a whole lot more in the comments section).

While it's interesting to read through the entire list, it's probably hard to remember (and implement) them all at once. Wouldn't it be great to focus on one single tip every day? Allowing you to figure out how it might apply to whatever you're doing without requiring too much time and effort. I thought so, and built a little Twitter bot.

Switching jobs

As you may have read on Twitter already, I decided to leave my job at NOCUS for something new. I felt that the last few months, I was missing the challenge in what I was doing. I want to find out about things, fantasize about solutions and scenarios, then bring them to reality. Somehow I ended up spending too much time doing the less exciting part of my job, with only little time to invest in what I consider to be the cool things.

So I'm looking for a new boss now, and that can be you. I created this little site where you can hire me, all it takes basically is signing the contract. I'll be happy to work for you!

Pomodoro in real life

So last Saturday was Barcamp again, for the third time in Ghent. Probably the most intensive Barcamp I've attended so far (5 simultaneous presentation tracks!), but that's hardly a reason to complain. Thumbs up for PKZ!

Web design trends for 2010

Here's the slides from the 2010 corporate web design trends presentation I did yesterday at Rabobank. While you can certainly argue we won't be seeing many corporate sites going as far as some of the examples shown, I thought it would be good to take these extremes as a starting point. Given the vivid discussion afterwards, I think that turned out pretty well.

Bizcamp

Yesterday was the first ever Belgian edition of Bizcamp. I've been to quite a number of *camps before, but Bizcamp sure was different. Main reason probably was the average age of participants (I guess I was one of the younger people around), resulting in high-quality and well-balanced presentations covering a wide range of topics.

I talked about singletasking (again) and re-themed (and slightly changed) my Zoocamp presentation. Here it is:

Posterous!

It's been a little over two weeks since I started my two week Posterous experiment. All I can say right now is that Posterous really is a winner. I've used it to post longer tweets, share quick thoughts (that would never make it to a blog post anyway) and to almost-live-blog Design for persuasion. The email-anything approach really is a timesaver and takes away any excuse not to post something.

Even cooler though: while experimenting, I think I finally found an answer to my blog redesign concerns. I've got some early mockups already, combining my online presence into one simple concept. More on that somewhere the next few weeks!
